Technology has revolutionized the workplace. You'd be hard-pressed to find any industry that has yet to be influenced by the technological developments of the digital age. Because of these innovations, new careers have sprung out of the woodwork and have opened up more options for the growing workforce. In fact, the Economic Strategy Institute reveals that 25 million new jobs will be made available to Americans in the next 15 years, all due to technological advancements.

One field that has been rapidly growing due to the rise of technology is digital marketing. The practice has changed businesses and has helped put smaller companies on equal footing with large corporations. This is due to the internet's wide reach that gives smaller businesses access to millions of people via their smartphones and computers. If this is something that interests you, read on to know more about why you should choose a career in digital marketing!

Inc listed digital marketing as one of their 25 most in-demand jobs back in 2018. Companies are always on the lookout for search engine optimization (SEO) analysts and search engine marketing managers, and the demand for these jobs is expected to increase as the years go by. Indeed, Maryville University’s outlook for marketing graduates highlights how digital marketers are some of the most in-demand hires, with 19,700 new jobs predicted by 2024. Marketing-related skills like SEO, content management, and analytics consistently top the charts of crucial skills on Forbes, Hubspot, and LinkedIn. By pursuing a path in digital marketing, you put yourself in the optimal position for growth, as the industry is always looking to foster young talents.

Digital marketing encompasses many fields in the digital age. This means you'll be opening up multiple career paths once you've honed the skills involved in being a digital marketer. This is because digital marketing goes beyond SEO. It also involves consumer behavior, product development, business policies, and a certain degree of data analytics. With these skills, you can branch out into other industries. One good option is a career in the e-commerce industry. CNBC reports that e-commerce is at an all-time high, as it is overtaking traditional brick and mortar stores in the United States.

Flexibility is one of the main draws of this industry. A third of the United States' workforce is now freelancing, with a significant number of freelancers falling under digital marketing. Freelancing allows you to work from anywhere and at a time of your choosing (as long as you meet deadlines). This means you can do some traveling on the side, all while progressing your career. Indeed, the possibilities are endless, as it allows you to do more while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Not to mention the amount of time you'll save by avoiding traffic. A report by Texas A&M highlights the amount of time that Americans waste in traffic every year, an amount that rounds out to about 54 extra hours a year in traffic delays.

It's difficult to find out that your interests may not line up with your overall goals. Luckily, a career in digital marketing does not require you to come from a specific academic background. So if you want to take up sociology or psychology, you may freely do so while still exploring the possibilities of a career in digital marketing. You can also take up free digital marketing courses that are readily available on the internet, just so you can get a good grasp of the basics of the field.
