Top 5 Life Skills Learned in an International Leadership Summer Program with Model UN

Posted by Caleb M. on Feb 15, 2016 12:26:33 PM

Today's blog post is from Amanda, a student at JKCP's International Leadership for Social Impact program. This summer leadership program for high school students teaches leadership skills and provide real world experience on how to be an engaged global citizen. Throughout the four week summer program students utilize the pillars of the United nations to engage with students from around the world and grow as a future leader.

Hey everyone! My name is Amanda and I am currently a high schooler in California and guest blogger for JKCP. I am actively involved with the Model United Nations (UN) program at my school and attend conferences around the state on the weekends. Being involved in Model UN teaches you a lot of great things that you can take with you for the rest of your life! Below is a brief synopsis of my top five:

Unplug to reconnect: How to have a great real life experience

Enrichment_teen_summer_programThink about the last time you went to a concert, or a live event of any kind. Did you get a picture or a video of the event? Was it more like several pictures or videos of it? In all likelihood, the people around you were also trying to get the same picture as you. We all want to be able to post our most exciting news to Facebook, Instagram, twitter and other social media channels so that we can tell the world, “I was there!” Do we miss anything when we do that? When we travel to an event only to watch it through a screen, do we miss out on the experience of being there in person? I would argue that we do, to a degree. There is something to be said about being somewhere and saving those memories to the oldest hard drive in existence, our brains. I am no scientist myself, but I would argue that we are able to be a bit more present without the hindrance of the technology that runs our daily lives.

When people hear "Philadelphia sports" majority will think of the four major sports teams in the city. Those teams being the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Sixers. Within the past week, Philadelphia has adopted a fifth sports team. That is the Taney Dragons.

Residential Life At Penn From Emma

Posted by Jamie Calvario on Jun 6, 2014 12:00:00 PM

The thing that you would never know until you get to the camp is the residential experience. In this blog, I am going to share my experience living in the famous Quad of the University of Pennsylvania and how JKCP made this experience even better.

The residential life at the camp mimics that of a typical college co-ed corridor living experience. At the Quad, we lived in several different corridors and spread across five floors.

Wherever you are reading this blog post from, remember that you are not alone at a JKCP or UPenn Summer Camp. Last summer, when I was at the Wharton Sports Business Academy, I met the most diverse group of students, with various geographical, national, racial, education and political backgrounds. As an international student myself, I had the international student full package experience at WSBA.
