For those of you who don’t know me, I am Haverford College’s (unofficial) mascot – the Black Squirrel. The College has always been known as the Fords. However, in the 1980’s I came into the picture when the baseball team noticed a bunch of my ancestors on campus and saw us to be a great representation of what their team and college stands for – unique, energetic and hard working individuals.
I was lucky enough to spend this past summer on campus with Julian Krinsky’s Xploration Program, and lately I’ve been finding myself thinking about how much fun we had together. Do you remember when we stole Hugo’s chicken head from him? Or when that Batman mask over at Villanova mysteriously went missing? All of these fun memories have me thinking - Why do I need to wait until June to catch up with you? My friends over at the main office saw that I was missing everyone, so they taught me how to use the computer and social media. They bought me an iPhone and even downloaded the Starbucks app to it. Now I am ready to roll.
Since the summer ended, I’ve been busy helping to plan some exciting changes that I can’t wait to share with you. With that being said, we are introducing new track scheduling as well as our brand new addition to the day, the Collaboration Lab. When choosing your summer schedule, you will no longer sign up for a specific class. You will have the ability to choose from six different tracks and will be able to move within those tracks as much or as little as you want.
We have also shortened each class by 30 minutes, making room for our brand new Collaboration Lab. This exciting addition will take place three times throughout each day in the form of team challenges. These challenges will vary from physical, mental, creative and strategic races where the team with the fastest time will move one step closer to unlocking the ultimate prize. We are all really excited for these changes happening to our Middle School Program.
My motto has always been, work hard play harder. With that in mind, I have a few trips planned in the next few months that I am very excited about. Hopefully you have seen the pictures of me on JKCP’s Instagram where I’m enjoying some time off in the Cayman Islands. While I was there I lounged by the pool, relaxed on the beach and even swam with stingrays. The fun is just getting started! There are a few more awesome trips I have planned before the year is over and I encourage you all to follow my adventures on Facebook, Instagram and using #JKCP #XploCollabLab.
